RESOLUTION OF THE

EL PASO COUNTY BAR ASSOCIATION

 WHEREAS; the El Paso County Bar Association is committed to the proper administration of justice by the courts of El Paso County and the El Paso County Bar Association has an obligation, as an integral part of the judicial system,  to use its best efforts to try to assure the delivery of due process to all litigants;

 

WHEREAS; since the founding of the court system in Colorado, court reporters have been utilized to assure accurate recordings of the matters conducted in the courtroom, an accurate record of court proceedings is a fundamental requisite to a litigant’s right to due process, both within the local court system and at the appellate level;

 

WHEREAS;  court reporters are being replaced by audio-recording devices in El Paso County and electronic recording devices are proving unsatisfactory for the purpose of having a verbatim report of proceedings; i.e.,  the devices sometimes fail or the recordation is unintelligible;

 

WHEREAS; the El Paso County Bar Association strongly supports the use of court reporters as a means to protect the due process rights of litigants; the El Paso County Bar Association respectfully requests that any measures which can be taken to protect this important segment of the judicial system be taken; 

 

WHEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:

 

That the El Paso County Bar Association is committed to using the time-tested method of reporting of trials in the district courts in El Paso County and the State of Colorado, to wit:  court reporters.

 

That the El Paso County Bar Association will promote the use of court reporters to preserve and protect the quality of justice in El Paso County and in the State of Colorado.
