CCRA MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE
It all happened so quickly – my becoming part of the CCRA membership
committee. There I was on the phone with my NCRA mentor, Amanda Greene, asking
her lots of questions and absorbing all the court reporting information and
advice she had to offer, as she had done so many times before.
I thought to myself, “There must be something I can give back to
Amanda,” so I asked her what I could do for her.
Her answer was, “Help me increase the CCRA membership.”
The duties Amanda gave me were easy: posting CCRA membership advantages
with the new membership forms and encouraging my fellow students to join;
talking about the upcoming Spring Symposium; being involved with the business of
Colorado court reporting and; of course, receiving the The Ramblings every few
months was enough reason to join CCRA.
“That’s easy to do and everyone benefits,” I thought.
I get the chance to give back to my mentor and become friendlier with
many of the students and Amanda gets some saved time by not always having to
come to DACR when she’s not working.
The DACR students get the opportunity to join the CCRA, hook up with
mentors if requested, network with professional reporters, and become
knowledgeable about Colorado court reporting.
Finally, keeping focused on the goal -- increasing CCRA membership. I would encourage all the students reading this article to think about becoming involved in the CCRA as an active member. I have benefited by networking and have a much better understanding of the career that I have chosen. Plus, I get to hear all kinds of great stories about what “it’s really like” out there!
