DACR STUDENT OF THE MONTH
by Amanda Greene
This is our second look at Students of the
Month at
Denver Academy of Court Reporting!
| The November 2001 day school student of the month
is Stephanie Ontiveros. Stephanie
is in the medical program at DACR, so her goal is to be a medical
transcriptionist. She is
nearing her goal speed of 140 and hopes to be working by the end of
summer. Stephanie has faced
the same types of problems that her fellow students have faced –
juggling work, home, and school! |
 |
| Cristina Apodaca is our December day school student of the month.
Cristina is in the 140/160 class and has loved the English and
medical terminology classes. The biggest challenge at school thus far has been her
hesitations in speed. We’ve
all been there! Cristina’s
current goals are to work in court or maybe freelance/job-share with
court. And . . . she’s
staying in Colorado, in the Denver area. |
 |
| Our January 2002 day school student of the month
is Kathy Torres. She
is in the 160 class, and her favorite classes have been the speeds;
although balancing her life has been her biggest obstacle.
Kathy was a legal secretary before entering our profession for a
more flexible schedule. Why
does she think she was chosen for student of the month?
Because she transcribes every day, regardless of how she thinks
she did on a test. What
perseverance! |
 |
| Leslie Smith has
the honor of being the November 2001 night school student of the month.
Night school has begun honoring students monthly instead of
quarterly effective in November. Leslie
began school in August of 2000 and has already made it to 160/180.
Why our profession? Flexibility,
opportunity, and money. What’s
her ideal place to work? Fort
Collins in CART. Way to go! |
 |
| The December night school student of the month is
Lisa DeLeo, who is in 140/160.
Lisa comes to us from the daycare provider arena, so we know she
has the patience for our job! Lisa’s
biggest challenge in school has been that she’s a single mother.
There’s lots out there who can identify with that!
So what does she want to do?
Captioning or freelancing in Denver. |
 |
| And last, but not least, Kellie Clark, the
January student of the month. Kellie
graduated CR school back in ’90, but ended up not working as a CR.
She’s committed now. The
hardest thing about school this time, she says, is that she’s already
learned one theory and now she’s learned another.
Psychology has been her favorite class at DACR.
And this one, colleagues, has not made up her mind between
freelancing and captioning. Kellie
says she’ll stay in the Denver metro area. |
