ATTENTION COURT
OFFICIALS More and more Court Officials are being issued
sign-on codes for email and Internet access in districts around the state. I'd
encourage any officials that don't have email through work to inquire with your
computer techs or administrators to see about getting on-line. This will greatly
enhance the Court Officials Committee, as well as the Legislative Committee
being able to quickly communicate issues of interest to officials. We'd be able
to make up a contact list of Officials who are NCRA members by typing in
firstname.lastname@iudicial.state.co.us. It will also enable members to quickly
communicate with their CCRA board members. The Internet is also a great research
tool for reporters. Also,
knowing that if you're reading this, you're already a CCRA member and I'm
preaching to the choir, I'd still like to ask officials who are CCRA members to
look around your district and encourage any non-member officials to become
members. Many of you may or may not know that last year our Lobbyist, Betsy
Clark, agreed to stay on in her position for us even though we were unable to
meet her contract financially. This year we're going to pay her more, but still
not at the rate she normally charges for her services. Her knowledge of reporter
issues and rapport with not only the legislature, but with the judicial
department, Public Defender's office, and alternate defense counsel is
invaluable to all reporters in this state. Bluntly put, non-member officials in
this state are riding on the coattails of dues-paying reporters and have reaped
the past benefits we've enjoyed by having Betsy in our employ, and will reap the
future benefits, but will also be those who complain the loudest if things don't
go our way. I'd also encourage you to drop me an e-mail at richard.matt@judicial.state.co.us if you ever have questions or concerns that the CCRA Court Officials Committee can help you with.
