OUTGOING PRESIDENT'S REMARKS: It’s
hard to believe a year can fly by so quickly!
It seems like yesterday that Eileen Hyatt was swearing me in for my year
as president of CCRA, while I stood there wondering how I could ever fill Susan
Becker’s shoes. But I quickly
found out how – it’s called our Board of Directors.
I know every president feels this way, and I am certainly no exception:
I had the best board ever to help me every step of
the way. Thank you one and all ~
you’re the best of the best! And
a heartfelt thank you to Susan Becker for your guidance and support as a
very active Immediate Past President. I had two
goals I hoped to accomplish as president. The
first was assigning a mentor for every student at DACR.
Well, I can’t report 100% success, but we have made tremendous strides
under the excellent supervision of Kathy Davis, our Student Committee
Chair. I want to extend my personal
thanks to everyone who became a mentor this year.
And kudos to Kevin Howell at DACR for your constant support and
encouragement! Secondly,
I wanted to get our website up and running.
Thanks to the computer wizardry of our webmaster, Jeniffer Aloysius,
my dream has become a reality. We
have a new website address: www.ccra.info.
I cordially invite all members to visit us.
I have always felt that students are our most valuable resource, and
Jeniffer has proven me correct. A
student at DACR in the 200 wpm class, she volunteered to construct and manage
our website!
As I look back to my first days as a “baby”
director on the Board, I have just one wish:
I wish I could go back and do it all again.
I have made friendships that I will treasure forever.
We are so
fortunate to have Barb Birger as our incoming president.
Barb has over 20 years of reporting experience, and many, many years of
outstanding service to CCRA. I wish
you the very best this year, Barb. You’re
going to have a great time! A very
special thank you to Mary George and Julie Matt for the
outstanding Fall 2001 Seminar. I
can’t remember ever having as much fun at a seminar!
And, of course, thank you – I just have to say it again – thank you
to Claudette Cotter for the 2001 and 2002 Spring Symposiums! And finally, thanks to Jason Meadors for being the only person to address me as “Madam President.” Even though you always said it sarcastically, I still enjoyed it!
